Unexpected visitor turns heads along Highway 29 in Brockville

Drivers near Brockville were treated to a rare wildlife sighting after a moose was spotted wandering close to Highway 29.

A photograph shared in the Brockville’s Best Facebook group shows the animal near the busy roadway. The image was captured by area resident Fay Simpson and quickly attracted attention online from people surprised to see a moose so close to the city.

The sighting appears to have taken place along the Highway 29 corridor north of Brockville. There were no immediate reports of the animal being injured or causing a collision.

Motorists are being reminded to use extra caution when wildlife is seen near a road. Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation says drivers should reduce their speed and pass carefully because animals can suddenly move into traffic.

Drivers should avoid stopping in active traffic lanes to take pictures and should give the animal plenty of room.

Anyone who encounters a moose should remain inside their vehicle and avoid approaching or attempting to feed it.

The sighting offered an exciting moment for local residents, but also served as a reminder that large wildlife can appear unexpectedly on roads across the region.
