The Brockville & District Hospital Foundation says more than $200,000 was raised during its annual Palliative Care Telethon on Saturday, Feb. 21.
The event aired from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on local MyFM and GIANT FM radio stations in Brockville and Gananoque. Funds will support the Palliative Care Outreach Program at Brockville General Hospital.
Foundation executive director Trish said the telethon shows the compassion of the community. She said donors, sponsors and volunteers help ensure patients and families receive care and dignity close to home.
Julie Caffin, president and CEO of Brockville General Hospital, said the outreach team provides specialized care where patients choose, including end-of-life support.
Dozens of local businesses, sponsors and volunteers took part. Musical guests and community leaders also joined the broadcast.
Organizers say every dollar raised will stay in the community and planning is already underway for next year’s event.
