Brockville sports community mourns longtime volunteer Boyd Caldwell

Family said they feel “lucky” to have had Boyd in their lives and celebrated his lifelong commitment to the community and sports

Boyd Caldwell, a longtime volunteer and supporter of minor sports in Brockville, passed away Tuesday morning. Family said he spent his final weeks surrounded by loved ones, sharing “amazing, beautiful, funny and special moments,” often saying, “I am so lucky.”

Caldwell was inducted into the Brockville and Area Sports Hall of Fame on June 13, 2014, alongside his wife, Wilma Caldwell, for their decades of service. Beginning in the 1960s, Boyd coached and managed hockey and baseball teams, including the Brockville Bunnies, while umpiring, refereeing, and maintaining fields.

Wilma coached minor baseball, kept stats, announced games, and helped organize tournaments. Together, they were central to the administration, fundraising, and promotion of minor baseball, hockey, and figure skating in Brockville. Family said they feel “lucky” to have had Boyd in their lives and celebrated his lifelong commitment to the community and sports.

Caldwell’s legacy leaves a lasting impact on Brockville’s sports community.
