A long-running food program supporting students in Brockville has officially joined forces with a local charity.
The Weekender Program for Students, which began ten years ago, has provided more than 78,000 food packages to children who may otherwise go without meals on weekends. The program is now operating under Loaves and Fishes, a well-known local organization focused on addressing food insecurity.
Volunteers were busy setting up a new distribution space at 125 Stewart Boulevard during the announcement, where program founder Laura Roobol and Loaves and Fishes board chair Joan Thomas signed an agreement to formalize the transition.
The Brockville Kinsmen, long-time supporters of the initiative, also marked the occasion with a donation.
With this move, the Weekender Program will continue to provide vital weekend food packages for students who rely on school nutrition programs during the week, ensuring stability for years to come.
