Cataraqui Conservation has downgraded its Flood Watch to a Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety thanks to improving conditions across the region.
After temperatures reached above 10°C on March 16 with rain and snow, sub-zero temperatures are expected March 17 and 18. Temperatures may rise around freezing from March 19 to 22 with possible rain or snow.
Stream flows have fallen from March 10 highs but remain about twice the normal levels for March. Inland lakes are above average, and dams continue high discharge rates. Snow surveys show little snow remaining and wet, unfrozen ground, reducing runoff absorption.
While widespread flooding is not expected, localized low-lying areas could see temporary water accumulation. Ice on lakes and rivers is melting, but ice jam flooding remains possible.
