Largest capital construction investment in the history of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville
The fundraising campaign for the new G. Tackaberry & Family Home in Athens is nearing the finish line, with $2.6 million already raised toward a $3 million goal. The committee is aiming to secure the final $400,000 by October 1.
Support has come from individuals, community groups, service clubs, municipalities, and businesses since the campaign launched in 2023. Contributions have included naming rights for neighbourhood wings, resident rooms, dining and living areas, balconies, and other spaces. Fundraising dollars will cover enhancements such as televisions, in-room lifts, advanced technology, flowers, landscaping, and seasonal décor—features designed to improve comfort and quality of life for residents.
The project, valued at more than $86 million, represents the largest capital construction investment in the history of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville. The three-story, six-wing facility will provide 192 resident rooms and replace the current 60-bed Maple View Lodge. Current residents are expected to move in this fall, with 132 new residents to follow.
A sign along Highway 42 and a direct mail campaign will promote the final fundraising stretch. Options for repurposing the existing Maple View Lodge building are under review, including affordable housing and childcare.
