Here in Brockville, some of the gas prices are above $1.40 per litre at local pumps

Prices at the pumps have gone up here in Eastern Ontario this week as Middle East tensions shake global oil markets. A U.S.-Israel attack on Iran raises concerns about oil shipments, potentially pushing fuel prices even higher if disruptions continue.

Local MP Michael Barrett says he's stunned by this despite Canada being an oil producing nation as well.

He says this situation shows that Canada needs to be more energy independent.
