Holiday giving push aims to finish Athens long-term care home

County officials say every contribution helps move the project closer to completion

The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville is asking residents to help finish a major community project as the holiday season approaches.

The new G. Tackaberry and Family Home in Athens is now fully constructed and will welcome residents in 2026. The three-storey, six-wing building sits on the Maple View Landings property and represents the largest capital construction project in the counties’ history.

While construction is complete, fundraising continues to support important features not covered by building costs. The fundraising committee has set a $3 million goal and has already raised $2,872,406 through community donations.

Remaining funds will help pay for gardens, pedestrian walkways, and indoor neighbourhood spaces designed to improve daily life for residents. Donations will also support essential equipment, including resident lifts and technology upgrades to assist both residents and staff.

County officials say every contribution helps move the project closer to completion.

Donations can be made online at www.mvldonate.ca, where giving options and payment details are available.
