How United Way is helping prevent homelessness in Leeds & Grenville

The Urgent Needs Fund aims to keep families safely housed while helping them stay financially stable, giving the most vulnerable in Leeds & Grenville a better chance to avoid homelessness

The United Way Leeds & Grenville Urgent Needs Fund launched in 2024 to support households at risk of homelessness.

Executive Director Hailie Jack explained the purpose of the fund.

The program provides one-time emergency financial assistance for urgent costs that could prevent families from paying rent or meeting essential needs. It follows a model from United Way Simcoe Muskoka, which helped nearly 1,800 people during a pilot project.

Jack talks about some of the things they can assist with.

The fund will not cover rent arrears or mortgage payments, and allocations are carefully managed to reach those most in need.
