KDH says current residents will be supported in finding alternate placements in long-term care homes of their choice
Kemptville District Hospital has announced it will close its Interim Long-Term Care and Convalescent Care Programs unit, with a target closure date of June 30, 2026.
Hospital officials say the decision was difficult but reflects changing health-care needs in North Grenville. The 12-bed unit, which includes four interim long-term care beds and eight convalescent care beds, opened in 2006 during a severe shortage of long-term care spaces.
Since then, more than 250 new long-term care beds have been added locally, and other convalescent care options are now available. The hospital’s mandate has remained focused on acute care.
KDH says current residents will be supported in finding alternate placements in long-term care homes of their choice. The unit will continue operating until all residents have secured appropriate placements.
Staff, physicians and volunteers were notified earlier today. A public town hall meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. Details are available on the hospital’s website.
