The mayor of North Grenville says misinformation is fuelling concern about a proposed provincial correctional facility in Kemptville, insisting there is no plan to expand beyond its original scope.
The facility, first announced by the Government of Ontario in 2020, is planned as a 235-bed institution on provincially owned land near the Kemptville Campus. Mayor Nancy Peckford said she recently confirmed with Steve Clark and provincial officials that no changes to the project size have been communicated.
Speculation grew after a March announcement in Brockville about a separate correctional expansion project, raising fears Kemptville could see a larger facility.
Peckford said the province’s priority remains upgrading Brockville’s aging jail and adding treatment capacity.
