Brockville kickboxer Emmet Heyman captured the Ontario Middleweight Kickboxing Championship at the World Association Kickboxing Organization (WAKO) Ontario Championships in Toronto, earning the city its first male provincial title in nearly two decades.
The 23 year old, fighting for Canadian Black Belt Centres, advanced through the three day sudden death tournament to reach the finals, where he stopped Toronto’s Jad Oklaney late in the first round with a powerful head kick that opened a deep cut, prompting a referee stoppage.
Heyman’s victory marks a major milestone in his seven year, 16 fight career and highlights Brockville’s growing presence in provincial kickboxing.
