Local fire chief reminds residents to check home safety after clocks spring forward

With warmer temperatures arriving this month, a few minutes of safety checks now can help prevent emergencies later

The clocks switched forward yesterday for daylight saving time, costing Brockvillians an hour of sleep and serving as a reminder for home safety checks.

Melanie Jones, fire chief with the Brockville Fire Department, says the time change is a good moment for residents to check safety devices around the home.

Jones adds that families should make sure alarms are working on every level of the home and near sleeping areas.

Many people organize an annual spring cleaning at their residences, and Jones says it’s a good time to take care of key safety tasks as well.
