Residents in Brockville braved the winter cold on Feb. 28 to take part in the annual Coldest Night of the Year walk, raising thousands of dollars for local homelessness supports.
The national fundraiser supports programs that address homelessness, hunger and housing needs across Canada. In Brockville, proceeds from the walk will help the John Howard Society of Kingston & District deliver housing and homelessness prevention programs in Leeds and Grenville.
About 89 walkers formed 15 teams, including members of churches, local businesses and community groups. Participants walked to show support for people facing hardship in their community.
As of March 3, the event had raised $26,885 toward its $36,000 goal. Donations will continue to be accepted until March 31, 2026.
