February 23 marks the first Hospitality Workers Appreciation Day in Ontario, following the passage of a private member’s bill.
The bill was introduced by Progressive Conservative MPP Ernie Hardeman and approved by the Legislative Assembly, setting aside a day to recognize hotel, restaurant and event staff across the province.
Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark is using the day to highlight the roughly 4,900 hospitality workers employed in Leeds and Grenville.
Clark says hospitality workers are often the first people visitors meet and help shape how communities are experienced. He also points to their role during milestones, difficult moments and as a social connection for some seniors.
Clark is inviting residents to nominate a local hospitality worker for recognition on February 23.
