Southeast Public Health is reminding food operators that certified food handler training is required across Ontario, with new in-person sessions coming up locally.
Senior public health inspector Sara Burris says the training helps ensure food is prepared and served safely, while meeting legal rules.
Public health officials say the rule is a key part of protecting customers and staff.
Southeast Public Health offers one-day, in-person courses alternating between Smiths Falls and Brockville. The next session is scheduled for Jan. 27 in Smiths Falls. Courses run from 9 a.m. to about 4 p.m., include the exam, and cost $50 per person. Certification is valid across Ontario for five years.
An online option is also available.
