Three suspects in custody
Three people are facing charges after a violent robbery in the city’s south end led to a tense police standoff Thursday.
Police say a woman was assaulted with a baseball bat and had personal items stolen at a home on Buell Street around 11 a.m. Officers contained the area as the suspects were believed to be inside.
The Brockville Police Service Emergency Response Team tried to negotiate their surrender for hours without success. Around 9:30 p.m., with help from the Ontario Provincial Police Tactics and Rescue Unit, officers arrested all three suspects without further incident.
The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released.
Police believe the attack was targeted and say there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
A 43-year-old man, a 36-year-old man, and a 32-year-old woman, all from Brockville, face robbery charges and remain in custody pending a bail hearing.
