The Brockville Police Service has wrapped up its annual Festive RIDE campaign aimed at reducing impaired driving during the holiday season. The campaign ran from Nov. 20 to Jan. 1, with officers setting up roadside checks at different locations and times across the city. More than 1,100 vehicles were stopped during the initiative.
Police said no impaired driving charges resulted directly from the RIDE stops. However, officers took enforcement action where needed and focused on education and deterrence. Eight drivers were given roadside breath tests, while one driver received a three-day licence suspension after registering a WARN reading. Two drivers were charged under the Liquor Licence Act and 18 others faced charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
