Police swarm abandoned building after break-in spotted near Brockville

A 34-year-old Brockville man has been charged with break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, as well as mischief for destroying or damaging property

One person has been arrested and charged following a break-in just east of Brockville.

Leeds County OPP say officers were called to a former shelter on Oxford Avenue shortly after 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, after a nearby resident reported seeing someone enter the building through a window.

Members of the Leeds County OPP, assisted by the Brockville Police Service, surrounded the building and began searching inside. An OPP Canine Unit was also brought in to help locate the suspect.

Police say an individual was found inside the building and taken into custody. Officers also discovered a large amount of property that had been gathered and moved toward a doorway, suggesting it was prepared to be removed.

A 34-year-old Brockville man has been charged with break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, as well as mischief for destroying or damaging property.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing.
