With the holiday season approaching, the OPP reminds drivers to never drive impaired and to report unsafe driving at 1-888-310-1122
An afternoon RIDE program near Lyndhurst resulted in impaired driving charges for a Delta resident. On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, shortly after 2 p.m., a Leeds County OPP officer was conducting a Reducing Impaired Driving Everywhere checkpoint on Hicock Road when the driver of a pickup truck was stopped and subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired operation.
Police say a search of the vehicle uncovered open containers of alcohol in the back seat and cannabis that was readily accessible to the driver. As a result, 60-year-old J. Randall Benson has been charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit, driving with open liquor, and driving with cannabis available.
The accused was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in Brockville court on December 19. His license was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
With the holiday season approaching, the OPP reminds drivers to never drive impaired and to report unsafe driving at 1-888-310-1122.
