A reported theft in progress at a local store has led to several drug trafficking charges, according to police.
Members of the Brockville Police Service say officers responded to a call at the Giant Tiger store in Brockville on Wednesday, March 25 at about 8:30 p.m. Police said the suspect left the scene in a vehicle before officers arrived, but it was located a short distance away.
After stopping the vehicle, officers conducted an investigation and searched it. Police said they seized suspected controlled substances, including about 20 grams of cocaine and 10.8 grams of methamphetamine. Officers also reported finding additional quantities of fentanyl pills and crack cocaine.
As a result, a 37-year-old woman from Perth has been charged with five counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, along with theft under $5,000.
Police said the accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
