What Brockville residents need to know before ringing in the new year

Emergency crews say staying alert and respectful can help ensure a safe and enjoyable New Year’s Eve for everyone

With New Year’s Eve celebrations set to ramp up tonight, Brockville officials are reminding residents to enjoy the night responsibly.

Melanie Jones, fire chief with the Brockville Fire Department, says residents should be aware of municipal bylaws, including those that regulate noise during overnight celebrations.

Jones also shared reminders about fireworks.

Sparklers can also be dangerous if put in the wrong hands.

Fireworks and sparklers reach temperatures of about 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, hot enough to melt some metals, ignite clothing and cause serious burns.

Emergency crews say staying alert and respectful can help ensure a safe and enjoyable New Year’s Eve for everyone.
