The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville is mourning the death of former warden John L. Dancy.
Dancy served as warden in 1988 while also holding office as mayor of the Township of Athens. The counties said he served with distinction and was known for his steady leadership and commitment to public service.
Current Warden Corinna Smith-Gatcke, on behalf of counties council and staff, offered condolences to Dancy’s family, friends and the Athens community. She said Dancy devoted many years to serving his community with care and integrity and was respected by colleagues and residents.
The counties said Dancy cared deeply about the people he represented and worked to make a positive difference in their lives through thoughtful leadership.
As a mark of respect, flags at counties buildings have been lowered to half-mast.
No details about funeral arrangements were released Wednesday. His public service career spanned decades and left a lasting local legacy behind him.
