Maple View Lodge could soon see major renovations after rural mayors in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville backed early plans to redevelop the existing facility.
At Thursday’s special committee meeting, officials agreed to move ahead with a proposal to turn the old nursing home into a multi-use centre. Once a new long-term care building is finished, the current lodge would be transformed to include child care, housing for workers, and retirement units.
Phase one includes a daycare with 51 spaces and 18 dorm-style units for Maple View staff. Phase two would bring 54 independent living units, with 30 per cent offered at affordable rates. Rents could be as low as $593.
The total project is expected to cost $24.3 million. County council will still need to approve all final spending.
Architectural drawings could cost $500,000.
