Volunteers at the Royal Canadian Legion Rideau Lakes Branch #231 were recognized Sunday for years of service to veterans and the local community.
The branch held its annual Honours and Awards event, focusing on individuals who devote time and energy to Legion activities and veterans’ programs.
MP Michael Barrett and MPP Steve Clark attended the ceremony and helped present special awards.
Among the top honours were Life Memberships, given to Jean Caldwell, Peter Caldwell and Robert Bolton for significant contributions to the Legion.
Legion branches across Canada rely on volunteers to help organize events, run fundraisers and provide programs that support veterans and local residents.
The event in Portland highlighted the important role of Branch #231 in building community connections and maintaining services for veterans.
Attendees described the afternoon as a positive celebration, emphasizing the value of volunteer commitment and the ongoing work of local Legion members in strengthening their communities.
