Mayor Wren reminded councillors that the province expects municipalities to help meet housing targets
Brockville City Council has approved rezoning for a six-unit apartment building on Scace Avenue, clearing the way for new housing in the city’s northeast end.
The decision was made Tuesday night, with all councillors in favour except Jeff Earle, who was absent.
The building will be built on a vacant lot with no current address, owned by 14 Scace Avenue LP. Council supported the project as an example of infill development, which means building on empty land already within the city instead of expanding outward.
Coun. Cameron Wales said the city needs to make the best use of its space, while Mayor Matt Wren reminded councillors that the province expects municipalities to help meet housing targets.
About 15 neighbours had opposed the plan earlier this year, worried about changes to the neighbourhood. No residents spoke at Tuesday’s meeting.
Council’s decision means the project can now move forward.
