Brockville city council is continuing to stand firm against the proposed Alto high-speed rail project, joining several neighbouring communities that have voiced opposition to the plan.
Mayor Matt Wren said he has long opposed the proposed high-speed rail line.
Wren said concerns about the project were also raised during Tuesday night’s council meeting. Douglas Wilson, a retired transportation consultant, presented to council and outlined several issues he believes should be considered before the project moves forward.
According to Wren, the federal government should instead focus on improving existing passenger rail service rather than building a new high-speed line.
The proposed Alto high-speed rail route has faced opposition from several municipalities across the region as discussions continue.
