Doherty is scheduled to appear in Brockville court again by Zoom on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
Alison Doherty of Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township appeared in Brockville court yesterday as she faces charges connected to a July homicide investigation in Augusta Township.
Doherty faces charges of improperly interfering with human remains, harassment and defamation.
Her new lawyer, Adrian Halpert of Kingston, asked the court for a fitness assessment, which was granted by the judge. The assessment is intended to determine whether Doherty is capable of understanding the legal proceedings and participating in her defence.
Doherty maintains she is innocent. During Monday's appearance, she said she was unsure why she was in court and denied any wrongdoing.
The fitness assessment is expected to provide information to the court about Doherty's ability to understand and participate in the case.
Doherty is scheduled to appear in Brockville court again by Zoom on Friday at 1:30 p.m. The appearance is expected to provide an update on the status of the fitness assessment.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
