Oct 5-11
The Brockville Fire Department is urging residents to be cautious with lithium-ion batteries as Fire Prevention Week 2025 gets underway this week, running October 5 to 11.
These batteries power everyday devices from phones and laptops to power tools, but mishandling them can lead to fires.
Fire Chief Melanie Jones highlighted one key safety tip residents should watch for when buying or using a lithium-ion battery.
She also emphasized several important safety practices everyone should follow when handling lithium-ion batteries.
Jones stressed that off-brand batteries or chargers can increase fire risks significantly.
Fire Prevention Week, held annually since 1922, reminds families to take simple precautions to stay safe.
