Applications close May 22
Applications have officially opened for the annual Belles & Ladders Girls Firefighter Camp in Brockville, and young women across the region are being encouraged to sign up.
The free three-day camp, organized by the Brockville Fire Department, will run July 22 to 24 and is open to participants aged 15 to 18. The program offers hands-on activities designed to build confidence, leadership and teamwork while giving participants a chance to experience firefighting skills.
Fire Chief Melanie Jones said the camp gives participants opportunities they would not normally experience.
Jones said even girls who are not planning to become firefighters are encouraged to apply because the camp focuses on empowerment and learning new skills in a supportive environment.
Jones said firefighters from several municipalities volunteered their time to help run last year’s camp.
She said the support of firefighters and the wider community is key to making the program possible.
The third annual camp aims to inspire young women to consider careers in the fire service while building confidence and practical skills.
Applications close May 22.
