Ontario is taking the next step toward building a new correctional complex in Brockville as part of a $3-billion investment to expand jail capacity across the province.
The province has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to build the new Brockville Correctional Complex and expand the St. Lawrence Valley Correctional and Treatment Centre. Site preparation work is already underway.
The Brockville project will add 295 new correctional beds in Eastern Ontario. A second project, the new Eastern Ontario Correctional Complex in North Grenville, will add another 235 beds.
The provincial government says the investment is aimed at keeping violent and repeat offenders behind bars while improving public safety. Officials also say expanding correctional infrastructure will provide frontline staff with modern facilities needed to manage offenders safely and effectively.
The Brockville project is one of several correctional expansions planned across Ontario as the province works to increase capacity and strengthen the justice system. Construction timelines have not yet been announced.
