Wren will not seek re-election this fall
On the heels of reports about a projected half-million-dollar deficit in the City's operating budget, Brockville Mayor Matt Wren has responded with the following:
“Our mid-year variance report shows city departments on budget, with water and wastewater both projecting surpluses - a reflection of sound financial management by staff.
The projected deficit is concentrated in Police Services, which under provincial legislation is governed by an independent Board with its own budget authority outside council’s jurisdiction, and the community will understand the pressures behind that given recent events.
With half the year remaining, this report gives us the data to course correct, and we’re hopeful the Police Services Board can find mitigations while the city continues to look for offsetting surpluses elsewhere in the budget.”
Wren will not seek re-election this fall.
