The Brockville community is mourning the loss of Duncan Keith Dewar, who passed away on September 27 at the age of 54.
Born in Ottawa in 1970, Dewar lived in several Canadian cities before settling in Brockville in 1992. A graduate of St. Lawrence College, he became a familiar face at Don’s Fish and Chips, where he worked for more than 25 years alongside his father, Tommy, and later his cousin. Known for mentoring young employees, he took pride in their successes and treated them like family.
Dewar also served with the Royal Canadian Naval Reserves, spending summers on naval ships in Halifax and Esquimalt. Friends and family recall his deep love for tradition, including his determination to keep an Easter pancake gathering alive during the pandemic.
