Northern Cables head Shelley Bacon says the Brockville manufacturer has stopped starting new U.S. manufacturing work after a 50 per cent tariff took effect last week.
The company is shifting skilled workers toward Canadian production. Bacon says a few temporary workers were released, but no full-time layoffs are expected.
Bacon says in addition to the high profile tariffs that everyone's worried about, we also have to concern ourselves with just how much product Canada as a country should be bringing into this country to protect the workers that are already here.
