The women were from Belleville and Brighton
Brockville police arrested two women after a theft and short foot pursuit near the Real Canadian Superstore on Tuesday (Nov. 4). Officers were called around 6:45 p.m. after store staff reported two women placing various items into their purses and bags before leaving without paying.
Police quickly responded and located the suspects on the west side of the Superstore property, near Crocker Crescent. When approached by officers, one of the women ran but was caught a short distance away. The suspects were later identified as a 37-year-old from Belleville and a 39-year-old from Brighton.
Investigators say about $463 worth of stolen merchandise was recovered and returned to the store. Police also learned the 39-year-old was on probation at the time with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
Both women were held for a bail hearing and charged with theft under $5,000, with additional charges for resisting arrest and probation violation.
