Brockville police are warning residents to be cautious when hiring unfamiliar contractors after an alleged fraud involving a paving and asphalt company.
Police say the company, reportedly based in the Greater Toronto Area, distributed flyers offering asphalt, masonry and roof repair services.
Investigators received reports that after residents requested quotes, workers allegedly started jobs without receiving authorization or payment.
Two men, aged 18 and 23, have been identified and arrested in connection with the investigation. Police believe there may be additional victims.
Anyone who requested an estimate for similar work and had the job started without an agreement is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Jamie Garvin at 613-342-0127, ext. 2082.
Police are reminding residents to be careful when hiring companies they have not used before. They recommend asking contractors for references and examples of previous work before agreeing to services.
