Melanie Jones, Fire Chief at the Brockville Fire Department, noted a couple of things to consider when using a real Christmas tree.
She also highlighted a few electrical safety risks to be aware of.

In Canada, Christmas trees cause an average of 160 fires each year, resulting in millions in property damage, injuries, and fatalities.
Decoration fires have caused an estimated seven civilian deaths, 13 injuries, and $15 million in property damage from 2019 to 2023.
Cooking fires peak during holidays, and overloaded circuits remain a leading cause of holiday fires.
