Brockville streets will become a place for public action against gender-based violence tonight as residents gather for the annual Take Back the Night march.
Organized by the Anti-Violence Coalition of Leeds & Grenville, the event begins at Brockville City Hall at 6 p.m. and ends at Blockhouse Island around 7:30 p.m.
Organizer Collette Johnson explains the main idea of the march.
Take Back the Night events have been held in more than 40 countries and 800 communities, according to organizers.
Participants gather, make banners and make noise to show they should be able to walk the streets without fear of violence.
Johnson also explained why local residents should come out and support the event.
