The new addition offers a lasting, visible tribute to the men and women who have served, ensuring their service and sacrifice remain part of everyday life in downtown Brockville
A new crosswalk in downtown Brockville is giving residents a daily reminder of the sacrifices made by Canadian Veterans, with the permanent tribute now in place ahead of Remembrance Day next month.
The Veterans Crosswalk was finished last week near the Great War Memorial.
The project was developed by the City of Brockville in partnership with Royal Canadian Legion Branch 96.
Brockville Mayor Matt Wren helped spearhead the project and explained why he wanted to bring a Veterans Crosswalk to Brockville.
The crosswalk follows similar tributes in nearby communities, including Smiths Falls and Carleton Place, as a way to honour those who served Canada.
Wren also explained why the location near the Great War Memorial was chosen.
Wren said the idea was first discussed around Remembrance Day last year. Now complete, the crosswalk will be in place for this year's ceremonies in November.
The new addition offers a lasting, visible tribute to the men and women who have served, ensuring their service and sacrifice remain part of everyday life in downtown Brockville.
