Brockville’s No Name grocery store will soon be the last of Loblaw’s ultra-discount pilot locations still open in Ontario.
The company launched three No Name stores in September 2024 as a test, aiming to cut operating costs and offer items up to 20 per cent cheaper than competitors. The stores featured fewer products, reduced refrigerated space, and shorter hours.
The St. Catharines location closed in July, and the LaSalle store near Windsor is scheduled to shut down Oct. 25. Loblaw said the Brockville store will remain open for now as the company reviews its future.
Retail expert Mike von Massow of the University of Guelph said Loblaw is likely to expand discount options as food prices rise. For Brockville shoppers, the store’s survival offers a rare opportunity for savings as household budgets are stretched.
