As Canada’s first astronaut mission to the Moon’s vicinity returned to Earth, a Prescott-area company near Brockville is getting attention for its role in the splashdown.
HFI Pyrotechnics Inc., located in the Prescott region of eastern Ontario, said its smoke marker was used during the recovery of the Orion spacecraft on the Artemis II mission.
The spacecraft carrying NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen landed in the Pacific Ocean off California on April 10.
The marker helped guide search and recovery teams operated with support from the United States Navy. The company says its devices are designed for air and sea use as target markers and wind indicators.
