A 10-year-old child has died after being injured in a head-on collision east of Perth, Ontario, police say.
The crash happened on Highway 7 between Drummond School Road and Drummond Concession 7 on Saturday, Dec. 13, shortly before 4:30 p.m. An Ontario Provincial Police officer was on patrol in a marked cruiser when it was struck by an oncoming pickup truck.
Police say three people were inside the pickup. The child was taken by Air Ornge helicopter to a regional trauma centre but was pronounced dead in hospital the following day.
The remaining occupants of the pickup remain in hospital with serious injuries. The OPP officer also suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is recovering.
The Lanark County OPP continues to investigate with help from collision reconstructionists and technical investigators from the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team.
