A young person who lost an electric bicycle in an online fraud has been reunited with the stolen property after a joint investigation by Ontario Provincial Police and the Ottawa Police Service.
In May, the Grenville County OPP asked the public for help identifying a suspect. Police said the young seller accepted counterfeit cash for an electric bicycle before the suspect fled with the bike.
Investigators said tips from the public, along with collaboration between the Grenville County OPP and Ottawa Police Service, led to the suspect being identified.
During the investigation, officers recovered the stolen electric bicycle and returned it to its rightful owner.
Police thanked everyone who shared information and assisted with the investigation, as well as the Ottawa Police Service for its partnership.
The OPP also reminded people buying and selling items online to meet in public places, bring someone along when possible, verify cash before completing a transaction and trust their instincts if something feels wrong.
