Although the permanent plaque will be installed later, Scott received a framed certificate marking the dedication
The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville has honoured Athens Mayor Herb Scott with a special tribute at its Thursday (Sep. 25) council meeting.
Scott, a long-serving mayor and dedicated member of Counties Council, was recognized for his leadership in bringing the new G. Tackaberry and Family Home long-term care facility to life. In his honour, the café at the home will now bear his name.
The presentation was made by Warden Corinna Smith-Gatcke, who praised Scott’s vision and kindness. The moment became even more emotional when Scott’s family, friends, and colleagues entered the gallery to surprise him.
Although the permanent plaque will be installed later, Scott received a framed certificate marking the dedication.
Leaders including MP Michael Barrett and MPP Steve Clark joined in praising Scott’s service, noting his humility, determination, and love for community.
The dedication ensures his legacy will continue welcoming residents and families for generations.
