Drivers are encouraged to stay alert and help keep Brockville school zones safe
Brockville police are stepping up speed enforcement in school zones as students return to class, after a driver was caught travelling more than twice the posted speed limit.
Police say a 24-year-old driver was stopped on the first day of school while travelling 82 km/h in a posted 40 km/h zone.
The driver was charged with stunt driving. Their driver’s licence was suspended and the vehicle was impounded.
Brockville police are reminding motorists that school zones can be especially busy as children walk and cycle to school, school buses stop to load and unload students, and pedestrian traffic increases.
Police are urging drivers to slow down, remain focused and watch for children, cyclists and other road users.
The force says motorists should remember that 40 km/h means 40 km/h.
Police say taking a few extra seconds to reach a destination is not worth risking someone’s safety.
