Deschamps said the township has come a long way, but there is still plenty of work ahead
Residents of Edwardsburgh Cardinal will not have any municipal races to vote on in this year’s election, after the township’s mayor, deputy mayor and council were acclaimed.
Tory Deschamps will serve another term as mayor, while Stephen Dillabough returns as deputy mayor. All five council seats have also been filled by acclamation.
Residents will still vote for school board trustee on Oct. 26.
Deschamps explained why he decided to seek another term.
He said council members do not always agree, which he said is normal, but they respect and like each other, something that is not the case for every council.
Deschamps said the upcoming term will be his last as mayor.
He plans to focus on completing projects and preparing the next council for success.
He pointed to recent developments, including the transfer of the township’s land bank from the Ontario government in August and the creation of new licensed child-care spaces.
