The union is calling on the province to increase funding and stabilize the system

The union representing faculty at St. Lawrence College says dozens of staff have been laid off or reassigned as part of ongoing changes at the school.

According to Faculty Local 417, 28 full-time faculty members have been laid off and 16 others involuntarily transferred across campuses in Kingston, Brockville and Cornwall. The union says the cuts are tied to an internal “Efficiency Audit” and come alongside the loss of part-time roles and reduced student services.

Several programs have also been suspended, including courses in health care, trades, business and the arts. The union warns these changes could impact students and local workforce development across eastern Ontario.

Union president Christina Decarie says the scale of the reductions raises concerns about the college’s long-term direction, especially as a merger process with Fleming College moves forward.

The union is calling on the province to increase funding and stabilize the system.

We are seeking comment from college officials.
