This year's theme is "Charge into Fire Safety"
Fire Prevention Week is underway across North America, with this year’s “Charge into Fire Safety” campaign warning residents about the potential fire risks linked to lithium-ion batteries.
Running until Oct. 10, the campaign focuses on batteries commonly found in phones, laptops and power tools.
Brockville Fire Chief Melanie Jones explains why they are a key focus this year.
Jones also shared safety tips for residents using lithium-ion batteries.
She said people should stop using a battery if it swells, leaks, smells unusual or becomes hot, and dispose of it properly.
Jones also warned that off-brand batteries and chargers can significantly increase fire risks.
