Brockville police are investigating a break and enter after a late-night alarm led officers to a flooded retail store, where pipes were cut and copper appeared staged for theft.
Police say officers responded around 11 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21 to an alarm at the Treasure Hunt store at 2399 Parkedale Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a large amount of water leaking from a wall inside the building.
City of Brockville staff were called to the scene and helped shut off the water to the area. Further checks showed the leaking pipes had been intentionally cut, police said.
Investigators also found signs that people had previously been sleeping inside the store. Police believe suspects accessed the ceiling and removed copper piping.
