Work on the project is already underway
A new backup generator is being installed at Augusta Fire Rescue's Station 2 in North Augusta after the department received funding from the Ontario government to replace its aging diesel unit.
The new propane-powered generator is expected to provide more reliable emergency power during outages, helping firefighters continue serving the community during emergencies.
Work on the project is already underway. Augusta Public Works has completed preparations for a gravel pad and underground gas line, while a propane contractor has installed the gas line and regulators. The next major phase is scheduled for July 27, when the existing generator will be removed and the new unit installed, weather permitting.
Augusta Fire Rescue said it worked closely with the North Augusta Recreation Committee to reduce disruptions to programs and activities held around the station.
Emergency response will not be affected during construction. However, residents may notice temporary changes to parking and access near the station and are asked to stay clear of pylons and barricades while work continues.
